Description
The first sound effect pack pre-designed for game audio middleware
(Because who has the time to deconstruct library sounds and break them into layers?)
Making great gun sounds that don’t get overly repetitive is hard.
They need enough detail to feel realistic and weighty, but not so much beef that it muddies up the mix. It’s easy to want to throw the kitchen sink at even small guns to make sure that every last detail is covered and it sounds super cool – but often that can also bury you under a frustration of layers that you’re not even sure are contributing to the overall sound after a few hours.
You can try and solve some of this time and stress waste by just using real gunshots from a library – but to really make them work for the constant repetition of games is a lot of work. Ideally, you can break a sound up into its transient, body, and tail… but not all library sounds come that way. So do you waste a bunch of time trying to cut up and EQ the sound into different layers you can put in a random container? Or just try and build enough “variations” so that it kind of works?
And what if you don’t have a ton of great library sounds and have to go looking?
Buying sounds (even gunshots) can also be stress-inducing
You have to start asking questions like do you buy a large gun library, or a niche one? Either way, this can turn into a gamble. Even when you buy a more niche pack, those often come with hundreds of files and thousands of sounds – many of which you don’t need and won’t ever use.
Presenting – Small Sci-Fi Weapons
Small Sci-Fi Weapons is a sound pack that truly embodies its “small” namesake. These sounds are smaller, simple gunshots that still pack punch in a way that feels good and can cut through the mix.
This is a modular, Game Audio Ready sound effect pack. This means that in addition to the fully produced sounds, we’ve split up the transients, body and tails of each gun and variation into their own individual audio files which are instantly ready to be drag-and-dropped into Wwise or any other middleware/engine.
As we care about your buying experience and want to remove the bloat – the pack itself is small, including 5 guns and 100 total 96khz/24bit wav files. This was an intentional choice, to remove any “throwaway” sounds that cheapen your experience.
We also know that quickly finding your sounds through clear naming conventions is important. So, this pack has adopted the UCS naming standard, and has full metadata to ensure you can locate each file quickly and easily.
Lastly, with the Premium Edition of the pack, you’ll get a series of training videos by James Thatcher called “How to Craft Phenomenal Gun Sounds from Everyday Objects”. In the series, James will walk through the basics of the process he used to craft the sounds included in this pack, such that you can be inspired to craft your own unique weapons when you don’t feel like you have “good” gun source recordings.

What do others have to say about Small Sci-Fi Weapons?
“I want more libraries that are put together and organized like this!
I found Small Sci-Fi Weapons was extremely well organized and laid out in a way that made sense for a game sound designer. Layers are clearly labeled and easy to find.
I think both [the inclusion of both kinetic and stylized effects] are really nice to have an blend together in a sci-fi weapons sound pack.
[I would recommend Small Sci-Fi Weapons] especially as a solid addition to a sound effects library. As a sound designer grows, they are often looking for more and more specialized sounds instead of generalist libraries, and a pack like this fits that need nicely.”
Akash Thakkar, Sound Designer (Hyper Light Drifter, Concrete Genie, We are OFK)
“The fact that Small Sci-Fi Weapons comes pre-designed for middleware randomization is amazing.
Having “completed” sound actually be modular effectively makes the collection infinitely useful. The more granular you can make your sounds in the system, the more dynamic they can be. This cuts so much time out of trying to disassemble a sound that was made as a whole before getting it into the game.
Not having to make my own ingredients is a huge plus as well.
Chris Parker, Sound Designer (Wizard with a Gun, Beast Breaker)
